Dalet today announced that the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) is expanding its Dalet digital audio production and playout platform to encompass the enterprise. The Dalet Radio Suite extension marks ten years of joint collaboration in digital media production.
“For ten years the Bulgarian National Radio has relied on Dalet comprehensive media systems to digitalize its production and to store, manage, broadcast and archive audio data,” says Mr. Konstantin Kunov, Director of Technology at the BNR. “Our partnership has allowed us to keep our technological capabilities in unison with the fast developing global multimedia landscape.”
“The partnership that we’ve built over the years with BNR illustrates the unique benefits that Dalet digital production and playout tools can provide to broadcasters,” explains Mr. Stéphane Schlayen, Chief Operating Officer of Dalet S.A. “With this Dalet Radio Suite extension, BNR is really expanding its production and playout platform to embed media asset management across its digital workflows so as to ensure consistent metadata tracking.”
The Bulgarian National Radio first implemented the Dalet radio system in its regional centers Varna and Shumen at the end of 1997. In 1998, the BNR’s world service Radio Bulgaria also utilized Dalet digital media technology to begin broadcasting fifty hours of radio programming in eleven languages throughout the world. By the year 2000, all but one of the regional centers of the Bulgarian National Radio adopted Dalet digital media systems to unify multiple workflows, to archive data and to streamline radio production in general. The partnership continued in 2007 when the BNR program “Horizont” implemented Dalet Radio Suite. It has used it since to produce the Bulgarian national radio news. That same year, the newly established regional channel Radio Sofia deployed its entire production platform and twenty-four-hour broadcast with Dalet Radio Suite.
About the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR)
For over 70 years, the Bulgarian National Radio has been gathering, recording, broadcasting and preserving Bulgarian history and culture as they happen. Along the way, the BNR’s dedicated radio workers have served the Bulgarian public following high ideals of historical accuracy, pluralism, dignity, honesty and faith.
Established in 1935, the Bulgarian National Radio remains the largest public broadcaster in Bulgaria. It has two national channels, six regional stations and a multilingual channel which broadcasts abroad. Furthermore, the BNR is the only radio operator in the country that broadcasts in FM, AM and short, medium and long waves. The BNR also maintains the richest historical archive in Bulgaria. The archive contains audio material which presents the oral history of the Bulgarian nation.
Working in a very competitive media environment, the Bulgarian National Radio enjoys the highest rate of public trust among all state institutions in the country. Sociological data further shows that radio audiences consistently rate the BNR’s news programs as “the best” and “the most comprehensive” on the media market. Younger radio audiences continue to turn to BNR’s channels to listen to their “favorite music.” Not surprisingly, according to the latest media polls, the Bulgarian National Radio draws 38 percent of the national radio audience to remain the most trusted, the most influential and the most listened to radio broadcaster reaching millions of listeners in both Bulgaria and the world at large.
