Broadcast IT TrainingWhen I’m standing in front of 100 engineers all expecting words of wisdom from me, it gives me a few moments to reflect on the fact that there are many individuals in the audience who know a LOTmore than me on the subjects that I am about to deliver. In fact it’s remarkable that most lectures I give are to people who already have a lot of knowledge!

The most recent lecture series was delivered on behalf of SMPTEfor the SMPTE regional seminars on the topic of File Basedworking.

We covered a large range of topics including:

* video basics
* file basics
* transfer basics
* database and identification basics
* how to glue workflows together
* how to optimise transcodes
* etc.

Everyone in the audience learned something and EVERY INSTRUCTOR learned something as a result of the Q&A sessions. In many ways it was disappointing that there were only 100 engineers listening. It was obvious from the audience that the information covered was vital to the running of their media business.

In a world where the business rules are constantly changing and we need to use technology to keep our businesses running, the most valuable resource in a media company is still the people. The people who understand VIDEO and AUDIO and METADATA and STORAGE and NETWORKS and DATABASES and SYSTEMS ADMIN and the BUSINESS are like gold dust and command both respect and decent salaries.

It came as a surprise, therefore, that one of the SMPTE seminars had to be cancelled because only 9 people had registered. I learn a lot by sharing my knowledge with others and I often feel that I need a bigger brain to hold all the facts inside. I hope you gain knowledge and maybe a little wealth from the knowledge shared in the AmberFin Academy.

Great to have you on-board!
