In today’s multi-platform world the big challenge facing content owners and aggregators is the ability to make their most valuable content available to the largest number of sets of eyes:

Whether you are in the cinema, at home watching HDTV or out and about but still online via your tablet or smartphone, you still want the best media quality possible.

Intrinsic to this challenge is the issue of standards conversion, such as the challenge of converting 24 frame cinema content to a 25 frame format that is suitable for television broadcast. This is a challenge commonly posed to pop video and commercial producers.

Can standards conversion harm your content?

24:25 conversion is often achieved by speeding up the content. This involves re-sampling the audio and changing the duration of the content. A consequence of this conversion process is that the pitch of the audio will change – this might be a relatively minor change but still it is bad for music.

Changing the duration is also bad for music. Ever since Queen revolutionized the music industry with the creation of the first pop video to support Bohemian Rhapsody, the music video has become a key way of adding value to a release for the group’s fans. Music videos need good pitch, duration, video quality and well … just everything.

Standards conversion for a multi-platform world

Looking at the challenge from an inclusive and technical perspective, good freeze frame performance is required because tablets, phones and other devices allow great freeze frames for those that don’t need reading glasses.

At AmberFin, we have put this issue under the microscope and unleashed our most very clever people. What we recognize is that advanced frame changing algorithms allow this “perfect storm” of conversion to be realized.

New standards conversion capabilities from AmberFin

After a great deal of work, we have achieved the perfect storm. Early in 2014, we will announce AmberFin’s solution, based on our great 2:3 removal capabilities. If you think this might add value to your media facility it will be available for early adopters at the end of February.
