Dalet Inks Deal to Build World's Most Advanced Multi-platform Newsroom with Leading North American Broadcaster
Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, has signed a landmark deal with a prominent North American broadcaster to build its next-generation, borderless multi-platform newsroom on Dalet Galaxy five. The broadcaster’s expansive operation is a 24-hour all-encompassing news service that includes four distinct traditional and digital news entities dedicated to delivering breaking news to more than 90 million homes. The digital transformation will leverage advanced Cloud and AI technologies and move all production and distribution operations to the cohesive Dalet Galaxy five platform, a unified Media Asset Management (MAM), Workflow Orchestration and Editorial environment. Frederic Roux, vice president of sales, Americas, Dalet, comments on the multi-workflow advantages Dalet Galaxy five offers: “This particular news network is on air 24/7 and what they must deliver is far more diverse than straightforward news shows. They need to produce studio news programs and documentary-style shows, which are much closer to long-form programming workflows and often feature multi-camera productions. In addition, a new kind of storytelling is required when producing for OTT and digital, which adds complexity to the production chain.” Roux continues, “Dalet Galaxy five is able to facilitate standard news, long-form programming and digital workflows simultaneously. The transition to the platform brings immense efficiency to the operation with limitless options to implement future workflows and iterate quickly with new, digital-first initiatives. The consolidation of systems required to drive these disparate workflows will also help optimize the total cost of ownership for the broadcaster. In this era of fast-changing news consumption behavior, our customers need an agile platform that can adapt quickly to their new business reality. This agility is inherent to the Dalet Galaxy five hybrid architecture.” Based on a modern, video over IP infrastructure that uses the SMPTE 2110 standard, Dalet Galaxy five platform leverages the elasticity of the Cloud and offers federated production capabilities enabling the news network to effectively scale remote bureaus, field resources, and workflows at will. Cognitive services integrated with Dalet Galaxy five will accelerate the metadata enrichment of content archives making news assets easier to discover and readily available for creating deeper news stories across all platforms. Thanks to the hybrid architecture leveraging AWS, Dalet Galaxy five will provide native disaster recovery capability by offloading on-premise capacity to the Cloud when needed and processing scalability. “Today’s audiences crave more detailed news information on the viewing platform of their choice, especially for major sporting and political events,” adds Roux. “Broadcasters need a solution that enables them to deliver that deeper coverage whenever and wherever these events take place and create a content journey that engages audiences across all platforms. Dalet Galaxy five industry-leading remote access and editing provides a seamless news gathering and reporting experience enabling journalists to prepare robust multimedia stories whether they are in the newsroom or in the field on assignment.” Dalet Galaxy five will underpin the entire multi-platform production and delivery workflow, integrating key broadcast systems and propelling game-changing field and bureau workflows with a significantly improved remote editing user experience. Dalet Galaxy five’s orchestration capabilities will facilitate metadata-driven operations that automate complex media processes, distribute tasks and streamline workflows, simplifying the technical hurdles of media handling while simultaneously providing staff greater control over assets and monitoring capacities. The Recipe for Smart Captions with Dalet Media Cortex
Why caption? Why subtitle? Because a large chunk of your audience either needs or prefers to watch video reading text without sound. Subtitles and captions are an essential part of business for any media organization who wants to reach the widest possible audience, for a multitude of reasons: legal requirements, international distribution, accessibility.... Captions provide a textual representation of dialogue and other important audio for people with hearing loss. They also give the viewer additional information about the video, such as context for a news clip. Subtitles provide a translation of the dialogue, essential to reach international markets. So, we all agree captions and subtitles are key, but... creating them is hard. First, you need solid speech-to-text transcription so that the right words are created from the audio stream. As many of us who have been working with this technology for a while quickly learnt, this is not enough. There is the complicated business of correctly segmenting, laying the text out, punctuation, timing and so on, often creating much manual work for captioning and subtitling teams. What if you could be smart about captioning and subtitling? What if you had a technology solution that automates most of these editorial decisions applying artificial intelligence to the output of a good speech-to-text engine? Enter Dalet Media Cortex. Over the last few months, our teams have worked tirelessly to improve the quality of our Smart Captions, part of the Dalet Media Cortex Speech service, providing users with high-quality automatic captions and subtitles for their video content. If you are using the Dalet Media Cortex API, Smart Captions will be delivered to you in the form of SRT or TTML files. If you are using Dalet Media Cortex integrated with Dalet Galaxy five or the Ooyala Flex Media Platform, captions will also be displayed as timecoded locators so that users can search and navigate through subtitles and captions easily. What is so special about Smart Captions? We have developed algorithms based on speech density, natural language processing and speaker diarization (the process of partitioning an input audio stream into homogeneous segments according to the speaker identity) to generate captions and subtitles that are as close as possible to the BBC Subtitle Guidelines. This takes care of essential elements in captioning and subtitling: such as text that flows well and is synchronized with the speakers’ voice and cadence, lines that split at natural points based on sentence structure and text length that is properly adjusted to screen size. How does this help you? Beyond the improved quality of these AI-generated subtitles and captions, there are immediate and tangible benefits. You will see the time you spent in adjusting subtitles or captions cut in half, when compared to traditional speech-to-text based solutions. You don’t have an automatic captioning/subtitling system today? Good news: you will save over 80% of your time in generating quality captioning and subtitles for your video content. Besides, having great captions and subtitles will increase the value of your media, and bring you new business opportunities, such as expanding to new markets or increase your online and social media engagement. No doubt Smart Captions is one of the multiple differentiators that makes Dalet Media Cortex an "IBC Best of Show Award” winner. Want to know more? Get in touch with the Dalet team here!

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations and content professionals, today announced that Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) has expanded its Dalet installation to improve overall fan engagement and experience as well as tap into new markets that ultimately increase revenue. The state-of-the-art Dalet solution features advanced sports production and distribution for MLSE’s four professional sports teams: Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS) and Toronto Argonauts (CFL). “Professional sports have always been a ‘now’ focused-type of entertainment and the digital era has brought in a whole new world when it comes to fan engagement,” comments Shannon Hosford, Chief Marketing Officer at MLSE. “Our number one goal is to provide a unique media experience and deepen fan engagement before, during and after the game. Dalet allows us to focus on telling the timely stories that matter to fans right now - whether it’s creating snackable content from interviews, a look into the lives of players, or deconstructing a spectacular play moments after it happens. It also gives us the ability to reuse that content for a related story in the future; connecting the history of the organization to that ‘now’ moment, which deepens the passion our fans have for their favorite team.” MLSE captures an enormous amount of content from games, practices, media scrums and interviews, and carefully curates that content for delivery to an omnichannel experience their fans have come to expect. Leveraging Dalet Galaxy, MLSE effectively wrangles content with a detailed metadata scheme that makes it accessible and useable in the moment and in the future <iframe width="100%" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rl9yRhM0Jm8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> By unifying content ingest, production and distribution into a cohesive ecosystem, Dalet Galaxy enables operations to have greater agility to share content across divisions, bureaus and remote locations, driving the interconnected storytelling they require across the brand. “Content is becoming increasingly more strategic for sports networks, leagues, teams, venues, and brands to better engage and retain their fans, whether it’s direct or through a network of providers,” states Frederic Roux, Vice President of Sales, Dalet. “To be competitive, you need a supply chain such as Dalet Galaxy that can manage the rich content inventory as it grows, effectively utilize it, and quickly tap into new opportunities when they arise. Dalet’s New Social Media Capabilities are Trending for News Pros
The massive amount of content available to journalists on social media is both a gift and a curse. The ‘wisdom of the crowds’ scenario on social media platforms provides journalists a wealth of real-time commentary on what is - to the digital majority - top breaking news and hot topic trends. News pros can leverage these trending topics to quickly tap into and engage with audiences on what is important to them at that very moment. Great, right? Not exactly. The downside: There has been no effective way to methodically aggregate, harvest, and easily utilize this social media content for a 360-news narrative. It’s a painful manual process to download social content, bring into your MAM, log it and then utilize key pieces for your story. That is, until NAB 2019... Leveraging social media in evolving narratives The Dalet Galaxy five Social Media Framework new “Aggregator Panel,” which made its debut at NAB 2019, solves this obstacle for storytellers who want to leverage social commentary for their evolving narratives. Journalists can set the Dalet Social Media Framework Aggregator Panel to follow any number of topics. The Dalet system will automatically compile - in real time - a running list of the tagged social media posts. Users can easily browse posts and select to download only those posts that are relevant to their story. Behind the scenes, metadata is automatically extracted and indexed in the Dalet Galaxy five content catalog. The intuitive dashboard lets users neatly organize multiple social media storylines. Simple drag and drop of content into carts lets users quickly reutilize posts in breaking stories. Thanks to the underlying Dalet Workflow Engine, the newsroom can automate workflows such as turning social posts into ready-to-air CGs and graphics, making it easy to reutilize content over multiple platforms quickly. <iframe width="100%" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/D-tqWCz8geU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> In most newsroom environments today, the news producer typically does not have much visibility into what is happening on the digital side of the operation. In a similar scenario, the digital team typically has difficulties accessing the assets including video, images, and scripts that have been created by the producer and news staff. The new Aggregator Panel provides a bridge between these two worlds. More than managing the social media bits in a way that can be used within the story quickly and easily, the new Aggregator Panel gives the newsroom a direct window into the social media world and beyond and digital teams access to the valuable assets being developed in the newsroom. Hello (collaborative) social media workflows The Dalet Galaxy five platform allows both groups to share assets and tools, essentially, creating an entire collaborative social media- friendly workspace. The beauty of the new Dalet Aggregator Panel is that it captures a social post so that content itself is available for production immediately within the collaborative space. Journalists can set the Dalet Social Media Aggregator Panel to follow any number of topics. Simple drag and drop of posts lets users quickly share and reutilize content in breaking stories. That video that is downloaded with the Dalet Aggregator Panel, is not just ‘downloading.’ Dalet recognizes it’s associated to a tweet and transcodes it into a mezzanine format with the correct aspect ratio for production. It automatically places it in the storage system with the metadata form filled out. For the users, it's just a drag-and-drop of the tweet. On the back end, Dalet Galaxy five does all of the heavy lifting. The user can just open it in Dalet OneCut or another editor and start working. The feature is called ‘Tweet to Edit’! It’s the same process for the creation of the graphic. As soon as you transform a tweet into a graphic, that graphic becomes an object within Dalet that you can either schedule in your production rundown or you can play it out on air with your news package. And of course, this is called ‘Tweet to Graphics’. While the Dalet Galaxy five Social Media Framework is great for journalists to publish their social media content, your digital teams may already use another social media management platform. However, for the digital teams, Dalet Galaxy five Social Media Framework does solve a big pain point, and that is efficiency in planning. Many digital teams manage planning using a shared Word or Excel type of document. This static approach provides no insight into the overall newsroom planning. With Dalet Galaxy five and the new Aggregator Panel, digital teams can plan with a full view of the newsroom activities and access to all content, including the harvested social assets. Dalet Launches New Integration for Adobe Audition at NAB 2019
Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations and content professionals, announced at NAB 2019 (booth SL6610) the release of Dalet Xtend for Adobe® Audition®, connecting professional audio production to the main content value chain. Adobe Audition offers a comprehensive professional toolset for mixing and editing audio for video, broadcast, and podcast content. The Dalet Xtend panel for Adobe Audition brings support for session management, including the ability to search and browse the categories of the Dalet Galaxy five content catalog. Users can import both audio and video titles with locators as markers into the Adobe Audition timeline, as well as clips, storyboards, and EDLs. Adobe Audition editors can also save sessions as Dalet Xtend titles directly back to the Dalet Galaxy five content catalog and archive without leaving the application. “Dalet Xtend for Adobe Audition empowers creatives with wider and deeper access to metadata-rich assets, minimizing the technical complexity of tracking, converting, migrating or even simply locating media across the enterprise thanks to Dalet Galaxy five,” comments Golan Tsarfaty, editing product line manager, Dalet. “With the underlying Dalet Galaxy five platform managing the nuances of the media lifecycle, Adobe Audition audio editors are free to focus on the art of editing, mixing and finishing their packages using the very best audio assets available.” “The Adobe-Dalet collaboration continues to bring expanded capabilities for our customers. Dalet’s new integration for Adobe Audition is a great addition to their panel for Adobe Premiere® Pro,” states Sue Skidmore, head of partner relations for Adobe video. “Our customers accessing Dalet’s Audition panel will create new efficiencies in their production workflows, enabling them to focus on their creative output.” Dalet Xtend for Adobe Audition governs access to Dalet Galaxy five content hubs and archives, enabling cross operation collaboration with a comprehensive level of metadata tracking and management that ensures asset genealogy stays intact. XYZ explains the user benefits, “Up until now, audio editors would have had to export a limited audio file to a shared folder on the storage platform and then import it into Adobe Audition and vice versa after they were done working with it. Important details such as metadata were lost in the transaction. Dalet Xtend for Adobe Audition opens a window into the Dalet Galaxy five content catalog and archive without having to leave the Adobe Audition application. With full access to assets, audio editors can expand their creative palette and view projects as a whole, simplifying their day to day operations, making the most of their valuable time, and freely collaborating with colleagues across the operation. Tsarfaty concludes “Dalet Xtend for Adobe Audition is an important step in simplifying professional audio production workflows. Following the same development philosophy of our Dalet Xtend panel for Adobe Premiere Pro offering, we will continue to work closely with Adobe to evolve our integrations, building an ecosystem that simplifies enterprise multimedia workflows while unleashing the full potential of creative teams capabilities and collaboration.” Learn more about what Dalet Galaxy five and Adobe can do for you: https://www.dalet.com/partner/adobe NAB 2019 attendees can book a private demonstration or workflow consultation with a Dalet expert to learn more about the new Dalet Galaxy five remote editing framework at: https://www.dalet.com/events/nab-show-2019 Dalet Press Briefings at NAB 2019 To schedule a press briefing with Dalet, please contact Alex Molina.
