Dalet Technology Helps Z1 Become The Czech Republic’s First Digital Channel

Dalet News Suite will power the Czech Republic’s first all digital 24/7 news and programs television channel, Z1

Dalet announced today that Z1 has chosen Dalet News Suite to power the Czech Republic’s first all digital 24/7 news and programs television channel. Dalet News Suite provides Z1 a fluid end-to-end workflow incorporating multi-channel ingest, a robust newsroom computer system with desktop production tools, expert on air playout control and archiving integrated by the Dalet MAM platform DaletPlus. Best-of-breed artistic editing tools from Apple are brought into the news workflow via Dalet Xtend. Purpose-built production storage from Exanet and playout servers from Omneon are fully integrated and controlled by Dalet News Suite ensuring seamless media migration across the entire workflow from ingest to archive.

“Dalet Professional Services played a pivotal role in enabling Z1 achieve their goals both in terms of time and technology,” comments Stephane Schlayen, Chief Operating Officer, Dalet SA. “With the Dalet MAM layer being present at all points in the workflow, our Professional Services team orchestrated key points of integrations and created the fundamental design for media sharing and production workflow from ingest to archive. Our deep experience in deploying end to end MAM systems worldwide was instrumental to propose Z1 the innovative workflow they were expecting with tapeless technology.”

“We had an ambitious launch schedule. We also were not willing to settle on the technology side. Everything had to come together and work perfectly as the launch of Z1 was a high-profile within the industry,” Martin Mrnka, CEO, Z1. “Dalet worked closely with all parties involved to ensure we were equipped to be on air successfully.”

The new Prague-based Z1 channel was awarded the country’s first round of digital terrestrial TV licenses and has been on air since June 2008.

The Z1 Dalet Driven Workflow

The Dalet driven workflow at Z1 supports both the Sony XDCAM and Panasonic P2 acquisition formats. Dalet Ingest servers manage file-based recording. Logging can be automated or customized with flexible Dalet metadata forms.

A full featured Dalet NewsWire newsroom system provides editorial tools for planning, rundowns, wires, and scripts. Notifications, story status/assignments, and rundown schedule enable Z1 staff to coordinate the broadcast from one user interface. Desktop editing, shot selection and package assembly are also fully integrated into the workflow with Dalet MediaCutter.

More comprehensive editing and effects production are done in Apple Final Cut Pro via the Dalet Xtend module. The Dalet Xtend plug-in enables the user to call up the Dalet browser and import a media directly into the Final Cut bin.

The Exanet NAS based production storage is fully integrated with the Dalet MAM application. Dalet OnAir controls simultaneously video playout on the Omneon servers and the play out of CGs.
