Dalet Digital Media Systems, a leading provider of software-based solutions for media organizations, announced today that FOX International channels (FIC) has implemented near identical Dalet business solutions, powered by the Dalet Galaxy Media Asset Management platform (MAM), in its FIC Italy and FIC United Kingdom (UK) facilities. The comprehensive Dalet MAM installations, which were implemented in a few short weeks, allow FIC to underpin its international operations, maximizing content production efficiencies and increasing delivery output across all facets of programming for its Italian and UK operations.

To help oversee the design and deployment of the FIC installation, Dalet worked closely with business partner Media Power and system integrator Professional Show.

The underlying Dalet Galaxy platform streamlines the FIC workflow by centralizing programming content into one database, providing bespoke web-based and desktop tools that enhance QC operations, promo production and delivery of new and repackaged program content throughout Europe and Africa as well as to affiliates such as Sky Italy and UK. Several Dalet Brio video servers facilitate the comprehensive content ingest and delivery needs for both facilities.

“FIC installed Dalet to better manage its global multiplatform production output, regardless of whether content is sourced from a live event, its US operations or purchased outside the FOX brand. Empowering Multimedia Editors with Seamless Remote Workflows
Where does Dalet OneCut sit in the Dalet ecosystem and in the news production workflow? One of our key focuses at Dalet is to offer true unified news operations for news organizations. As part of this mission, we have developed a powerful, multimedia editing tool for journalists and storytellers: Dalet OneCut. How is Dalet OneCut different from other editing tools out there? In developing Dalet OneCut, our goal was to pinpoint the functionality storytellers, like journalists, needed most. We designed Dalet OneCut to be a simple-to-use editor that focused on their needs specifically. This allows them to efficiently and creatively produce their stories. The new release of Dalet OneCut, which we will be showcasing at IBC2018, includes a standalone version that incorporates the same exact features as the Dalet OneCut that today serves thousands of users within the Dalet Galaxy five environment. If a user is familiar with the connected Dalet Galaxy five version of OneCut, there is no additional training needed to edit their piece in the field or on-premise in the newsroom. The consistency of workflows between in-the-field and on-premise operations is a big advantage for users as they don’t have to sacrifice any features to work remotely. What hurdles do journalists face today in preparing their news packages? We have received several requests from news organizations looking for us to provide a seamless way for journalists to contribute content from the field with the ability to finish or partially finish their story remotely. Previously, there was no efficient way for journalists in the field to easily access and use the newsroom’s central content catalog to prepare their news packages and deliver these back to the newsroom. With Dalet OneCut, we solved two things. First, we give journalists a way to quickly upload content from the field. Second, we give them the ability to share story drafts as well as finalize and submit their piece from anywhere, using content they captured in the field as well as content from the central newsroom catalog and archives. When a journalist does submit a story, whether it is work-in-progress or complete, Dalet OneCut knows to only upload the locally captured media used in the package, while Dalet Galaxy five on the receiving end links the on-premise content when the package is received. Not having to move all of the local and on-premise media files back and forth saves an enormous amount of time and resources. And with a direct link to their Dalet Galaxy five environment through Dalet OneCut, journalists can render straight to a placeholder, which is important for airing fast-breaking news. No other remote editing workflow has this type of flexibility. What hurdles do news broadcasters face when supporting journalists in the field? For broadcasters, there is a big IT challenge to set up remote workflows. Remote connection requires VPN licensing, added security, and dedicated infrastructure to set up properly. In Dalet remote editing workflows, we leverage the cloud to address many of these issues. Dalet OneCut in the field and Dalet Galaxy five utilize intermediate media that is located on the cloud. Journalists are not actually connecting directly to the on-premise Dalet Galaxy five environment, and this eliminates security issues. The overhead is minimal, there is no need for a VPN or any VDI-like connection. Keeping costs under control ticks off an important box for broadcasters. You are showing the new Dalet Remote Editing multimedia content production tool at IBC - what are the cool features and capabilities attendees should see? In terms of Dalet OneCut editing improvements, we will be showing multiple video layers and graphics tracks that journalists have been requesting. We’ll be showing the redesigned effects palette, which provides a simplified approach to creating effects. Users can do simple or advanced boxing with positioning, scale, video rotation, cropping and feathering on multiple layers. We have also added simplified keyframing for adding effects, and users can now easily overlay text in Dalet OneCut. In terms of remote editing specifically, of course we will show our creation of MPEG-DASH, either locally or on the cloud, on S3. We will show the ability to edit remote content directly out of S3, while smartly downloading only the portion that I want to have on my timeline so I can continue editing from that file, even if the network connection is unstable. We will also show how you can cut 10 seconds from an hour-long file, then smartly download only the 10 seconds of media that is needed; create a voiceover, finalize the piece, and then send back to the site to be rendered on-premise/in the newsroom. The entire team has been working really hard on these remote workflow innovations. We first showcased it in private presentations to a number of beta customers and personally, I'm really excited to showcase it publicly at IBC2018!

BBC Wales Puts Dalet At The Core Of Its New Broadcast Center

MAM Moves to the Cloud – Dalet has a View
The Cloud changes everything else in broadcast and since most MAMs are not cloud-native, will cloud kill MAM as we know it? Kevin Savina, director of product strategy, Dalet answered all your questions. Who actually makes money from MAM? Organizations using Media Asset Management (MAM) to increase their financial bottom line usually do so by reducing costs, increasing revenues or a combination of both. The big question is: how do we measure that? As you know, big questions often come with multiple answers... In this case, the main issue is that measuring the Return on Investment (ROI) of the implementation of a new MAM solution is not an easy task, because there is no baseline to measure it against. At Dalet, we believe the value can be measured. First let’s define what we mean by MAM. Dalet define it as the platform that helps with the management of an organization’s media assets, cataloging assets for search, browse and retrieval. When properly used, the MAM should be the primary access point for ingress, access and egress for media in the organization. The productivity boost from a properly designed catalog is the ability to find things when you need them and retrieve them for use as quickly as possible. The second key aspect of a modern MAM platform is the ability to orchestrate workflows to create value from these assets. MAMs that offer ‘If This, Then That’ (IFTTT) type of policies enable organizations to automate and keep tabs on all kinds of processes, including ingest operations, review & approvals, transcoding, automated QC and media distribution. Even at the basic IFTTT level, the ability to have a system route media within the organization has the value of eliminating wasted time (tasks no longer sit for a human resource to trigger or operate them), as well as providing limited reporting on proper completion. A well-designed MAM system with IFTTT policies will be able to report on the processes that were started and completed by this policy control. We can see the value brought by these platforms from two angles: Reducing operational costs by automating processes and facilitating human operations, through the cataloging of assets on one side and the orchestration of workflows on the other side. Increasing revenues by providing the ability to produce more and better content and/or to deliver this content to more outlets, thus maximizing the value of assets. Dalet customers who have implemented MAM systems have been able to substantially increase their productivity by a factorx4 to x6, and expand their content distribution by a factorx8 to x11. Has MAM delivered on its promises? From our point of view, the fact that a MAM project delivers on its promises is based on a combination of factors: - On the end-user side: Are the expectations well understood? Have the end-user needs been well taken into account? Is the choice of the vendor / solution motivated? Has the project been well managed? - On the vendor side: Is the product appropriate for the needs? Has the project been well managed? The issue isn’t so much whether MAM has delivered on its promises, but whether or not specific vendor promises of what a MAM is actually capable of, beyond the catalog, were fulfilled. There are numerous examples of vendors that have over-promised MAM capabilities for the ability to integrate with external metadata sources, interoperate with third-party systems, handle specific media formats and data models, or manage specific workflows. How does the Cloud change things? The Cloud implies multiple things at once: Virtualized machine instances Machines that are not in the local data center Storage that is not in the local data center Business rules to create and deploy machine instances and storage when required (i.e. elasticity) Billing models that align with operations, based on subscriptions or ‘pay for what you use’ Media customers are choosing to utilize some or all of these items as they implement a ‘cloud’ workflow. In some cases, they want media transformation and distribution to run as close to the edge as possible, thus lowering their costs of distribution. In other cases, we’re seeing entire pre-production workflows operate in the cloud in order to provide elastic costs to match job order billing. Cloud changes things in the sense that it adds a whole new level of flexibility to MAM deployments. Things that used to be fixed and constrained can now be used as needed. For example, cloud allows for: Flexible, dynamic and scalable IT infrastructure (compute or storage), with new pricing models IaaS/PaaS/SaaS models and access to new cloud-related services - for example Artificial Intelligence (AI) Just as there is no one definition of ‘cloud’ there is no one ‘cloud’ implementation or business model that is right for every customer. Vendors should be prepared to talk about each of the items the ‘cloud’ makes possible and discuss how their solution can fit within the customer needs. Point 1 impact is that MAM solutions need to support this new type of infrastructure. This is a new generation of infrastructure. The broadcast industry started with proprietary, ad-hoc hardware, then moved to off-the-shelf IT systems (servers, storage). Cloud is a similar change. Point 2 is the real game changer as it has real operational and business impacts. The core of MAM products is not impacted by such change. Assets will continue to be referenced in a system and tools will still be required to process the content. What is impacted is the eco-system around the MAM, which can now become much more dynamic. A MAM should be able to leverage cloud services so that users can benefit from the cloud through the MAM. And there again orchestration will be a key component, giving the ability to provision, control and monitor the various services available. Can you simply virtualize a MAM in the cloud and make it a success? The ability to successfully virtualize a MAM in the cloud obviously depends on how you measure success. We see success as customer-driven, not vendor-driven. If a customer wants to migrate their existing workflows and software licenses to an external datacenter for the purposes of offloading hardware management and gaining simpler, high availability / disaster recovery scenarios, virtualizing the existing MAM would be 100% appropriate. Some of our customers have been fully virtualizing their MAM solution for years and consider the project a success. Of course, simply virtualizing your existing MAM infrastructure and hosting it in a cloud environment (public or private) doesn’t gain the other cloud benefits of elastic business rules and elastic costs. To truly enable these items, MAM and workflow orchestration systems built around them should be architected to enable individual processes to be created and deployed as business needs require them, which requires that vendors have knowledge of the cloud platform the customer has chosen in order to properly create either a virtual machine instance or virtual container host, clone the proper process, start the machine/container, start the process and connect it to the central system (and of course, the opposite, when the business need expires). How do you architect asset management for the cloud without losing a lot of money? Like anything in a software organization, you start by listening to your customer’s needs, and then you build the pieces necessary to fulfill those needs. Controlling costs in software builds is a matter of two things: Proper architecture and planning up front Good project management to control engineering processes and minimize the impact of external changes Does MAM have a future? If so, what form will it take and why? MAM catalogs are an essential part of media operations, and they are not disappearing. Media organizations will always need to be able to search, browse and retrieve their media assets, retaining metadata from the interaction with external systems, and enabling workflow orchestration on top of those media-aware data models. Tapping into the deep, multi-layered data model of MAM platforms such as Dalet Galaxy, internal or external reporting and analytics tools allow users to analyze vast amounts of data and offer Business Intelligence (BI) specifically tailored for media operations in order to measure performance throughout the chain and build sound data-driven strategies. This is one of the keys to growth for media organizations who greatly benefit from the agility and accessibility of the Cloud. Smart vendors see the cloud as an enabler of new business models, providing customers what they want, when they want it. MAM needs to move from a solution to a smooth part of a business workflow. For a MAM to be future-proof, it must enable more and more workflows around it, provide a high level of agility, and last but not least, be easy to integrate. 2017 Trends in Media Asset Management - Q&A with Kevin Savina, Product Strategy Director

Kevin Savina, Product Strategy Director for Dalet, discusses with The Broadcast Bridge important 2017 trends in media asset management – multi-platform distribution, collaboration, workflow orchestration and business intelligence reporting – that broadcasters, facilities and content producers should keep at the forefront of their decision-making. The Broadcast Bridge (TBB): How are changing audience consumption habits combined with the continued rise of social media impacting multi-platform distribution? Kevin Savina (KS): In order to be addressed efficiently, Multiplatform distribution workflows need to be considered at the heart of the operations, and not as an afterthought. The MAM solution is key to enabling efficiency in this process. Not only does it need to manage the stock and the preparation flow of all the program elements needed for outbound content on all distribution channels, but it also needs to cater for a return path of data, and even more so with social channels. Let’s start withthe program preparation aspect. In multi-platform distribution, we still face challenges of similar nature as the ones traditional linear broadcasting faces - dealing with multiple languages, multiple audio tracks, multiple subtitle tracks, and different delivery formats - but these need to be taken to a much larger scale. By providing the right toolset and automating the packaging process, the combination of MAM & orchestration optimizes that preparation, facilitating a much more efficient multi-platform distribution workflow. Now let’s move to the aspect of the return data path from the distribution platforms back into the MAM, as it is key for collecting important data on content performance. Typically, traditional MAM solutions preparing content for delivery on linear channels have not been concerned with any consumption data flowing back. But with digital platforms (OTT and social media), this data is now available and not tapping into it for new strategies is a missed opportunity. To lay properly the foundation for the new ‘game’, these data sources should be connected back to the MAM, mapped in the data model, and made available in various aggregates, to various users groups, at various stages, in order drive more informed decisions at the editorial and content preparation level, as well as longer term strategies. COLLABORATION TBB Question: We operate in a work-anywhere world with multi-disciplinary teams, how is MAM keeping pace with this trend? KS: MAM started out as the platform to manage your media assets, but has now evolved into a solution that manages workflows to prepare these assets. To do this efficiently, it is not enough to manage access rights and share content, you need native collaboration tools. Having users accessing the system from different locations, over secured web clients or mobile applications allows for distributed teams to operate. Providing built-in chat and notification tools ensures they operate with maximum productivity. And finally, providing solutions for multi-site operations, brings together cross-geography workflows, making the walls of separate offices & facilities a distant memory. The combination of these tools, if done right, can turn the MAM into a true collaboration platform. WORKFLOW ORCHESTRATION TBB Question: We have more content to produce, more tasks to manage, more technologies to connect, more changes to come – how is workflow orchestration evolving to manage the growing demands? KS: Well, there is indeed a need for workflow orchestration to optimize efficiency around MAM driven workflows. From a design perspective, there has always been a divide between 2 schools of thought: should orchestration be part of the MAM platform or a separate system? There is no definite answer to this question, but I would tend to believe that the most efficient solution is to have an orchestration layer very closely coupled to the MAM. This scenario would make full use of the comprehensive metadata available in the MAM to drive business rules as well as ensure consistency when continuously changing these business rules and operations – as mentioned in the first topic. Our choice has been to have orchestration as an open component that is natively integrated with the MAM. If we look at the orchestration component itself, it needs to be a BPM platform based on standards such as BPMN 2.0, which will orchestrate a combination of automated technical processes and human tasks/operations. This is key to efficiency. Any partial solution will limit what can be accomplished. What’s interesting today is that we even see some organisations, who already have MAM systems in place, but no built-in orchestration, looking for solutions like Dalet as a complementary layer that facilitates workflows across their legacy siloes, improving efficiency and bringing visibility at a higher level. CLOUD TBB Question: Cloud – what can we expect from MAM & the Cloud? KS: Well, let me start by making an important distinction between “MAM in the Cloud” and “MAM and the Cloud”. In general, moving some part of an operation to Cloud is not just a technology change, it will also affect other areas such as financial planning, operations, personnel, etc... As such it typically requires a transition phase. A first approach, that we see with our customers is what I would call “MAM and the Cloud”. It consists, in keeping a traditional MAM solution, running on premise, but taking advantage of some Cloud services as IaaS (Compute and Storage on AWS or Azure are the most common) but also some SaaS services. It does not fundamentally change the MAM operations work, but it does bring a significant first layer of flexibility to our customers. A second approach would be “MAM in the Cloud”. There you have the whole MAM system running in the Cloud. There are some customers that have made this move to “All-in on Cloud”, but very few so far. What we expect to see more often is what I would call ‘Edge Cloud Workflows’, whereby we work with our customers to provide a ‘Cloud-based solution’ to a specific existing business or workflow problem and nicely integrate this with their pre-existing workflow. The key aspect here is that this gives full flexibility to our customers to decide what area makes the most sense to gradually implement in the Cloud. BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE TBB Question: How is MAM helping content owners collect, model and exploit data? KS: “Data-driven” is one of the current buzz-words of Management Gurus. Well, if you look at the point of view of the broadcasters and content owners, a well-structured MAM back-end, tightly combined with orchestration is the only way to enable data-driven media operations. First, to build the proper data model for a data-driven media strategy you need to combine: The metadata - of the media assets, their taxonomy and the relationships between assets (available in the MAM) The data about the users the groups they pertain to and their rights (available in the MAM) the time they spend on their tasks (available in the BPM) The data fed back from audiences on each asset (available in the MAM) The data about the infrastructure and all the connected software services (combining data available in the MAM and in the BPM) Then to make it actually usable for decisions you need to consolidate this data and aggregate it into actionable insight for various users and in various tools: In the MAM and its production tools In the BPM, the tasks it displays or its provisioning algorithms In the BI and the set of reports it facilitates CLOSING The key question to ask is whether the MAM will respond to the business requirements of your facility. Can it enable true integration between silos of production? Can it offer you the services you need in such a way that the cost savings can be established without compromising the quality of the content produced? Is it sufficiently scalable and extensible so that it can deliver the agility required to respond to new business and new business models? What would be required to add a new broadcast channel? What would it take to deliver content out to a new content distribution network? What would it take to integrate a new content production unit? What would it take to rapidly scale up the number of users? How is it integrated with the Cloud? These are the essential features that will ensure you are truly future-proofing your facility.

Hollywood’s Colortime Facility Industrializes Client Content Services with Dalet Workflow Orchestration and Media Asset Management for Post-Production

Here are just a few ways that Dalet Galaxy can improve your existing workflow: For Journalists For Media Managers For Librarians For Management For Journalists Many of my journalism students over the years have complained that Dalet 3.5 is way too “Windows 98.” In Dalet Galaxy, we enhanced the look and feel while also keeping in mind what kind of tasks look better with a light skin, such as writing a story, while a dark skin is better suited for video editing. If you have ever sat with a video editor, it’s usually in the dark (think dungy basement apartment), while journalists like to be seen and see others. The Home Screen, both in Dalet WebSpace and in the full client, cuts the amount of steps to create a story down from four steps to one, and, with the auto text and macros capabilities, the time needed to put common objects or words in a story has been greatly reduced. While researching for assignments, the first place to look is the “planning event” associated to the assigned story, which is populated with maps, pictures, tweets harvested from Twitter, RSS feeds, and other types of digital media. A journalist has the all the information at his/her fingertips and thus can focus on the content rather than collecting information. Dalet Galaxy has brought field journalists and those working remotely closer to home with its new Chat functionality. Available in the full client as well as the new and improved WebSpace, Chat offers a modern interface with support for persistent chats, group chats, messaging offline users and much more. In addition, the mobile app Dalet On-the-Go allows journalists to receive assignments via smartphone or tablet. They can then write stories, film interviews, record audio and take pictures using an iOS or Android device, which automatically uploads content to the newsroom, making news more current than ever. While Dalet Galaxy enhances the experience of editing using Adobe® Premiere®, Final Cut Pro®, and Avid Media Composer® with tight integration with Avid Interplay®, journalists also have the option to edit in Dalet Galaxy using the multi-layer, effects-filled Dalet OneCut Multimedia editor. With advanced metadata tagging and new API integration with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Dalet Galaxy enhances content once destined only for television or radio in order to reach a wider audience. All of this is monitored through analytics to better understand media consumption, regardless of the distribution platform. For Media Managers Before the birth of Dalet Galaxy, while coaching media managers, QC and ingest operators in Digital Media Centres or ingest rooms, I found that there were far too many steps when scheduling an ingest. The old process was as follows: Check email or the net for the ingest schedule Create a Planning event to alert others of the recording Create an ingest job for the recording Switch the router source Conduct a QC check while ingesting Sometimes manually create a proxy Fill in metadata for search User(s) must open up many different applications for this process, with various other confusing and convoluted steps along the way. With the Dalet Workflow Engine, the task is automated: Dope sheets with the Schedule and Information from agencies like Reuters imports into Dalet Galaxy as a Planning event; all information is associated to the corresponding ingest job, which is automatically scheduled. As the high-resolution video ingests, directly to the SAN or from the video server to the storage, the Dalet Brio video server generates a proxy so the user can access the content faster.​ In 2015, newsrooms and media centres receive content from a wide variety of sources such as cell phones, tablets and even drones, in a wide variety of formats. Dalet AmberFin easily transcodes this content, which can even be in 4k, into an HD broadcast-quality format with QC integration to check the audio and video quality, then updates the asset in the MAM seamlessly. While this is happening, the Media Manager sits back in a rolling chair watching the process in the Job Monitor. For program and archive workflows, with the easy-to-use workflow designer, administrators can setup complex orchestrated workflows with both automated and manual tasks. When the asset appears in Dalet it becomes a task of the Dalet Workflow Engine, which triggers different automated tasks and assigns jobs to users. As users claim different tasks, Dalet Galaxy automatically opens up the correct program for that task, such as the QC Playout module, or an Asset Management form to enter metadata for search. With the new track stacking capabilities, workflow management tools and context map functionality in Dalet Galaxy, handling complex workflows with a wide variety of assets related to one other, such as subtitles, language tracks and multiple versions, has been made more fluid and easier to manage. Through this orchestration, Galaxy streamlines complex transformations to send content where it needs to go, in the correct language, and in the correct format to systems such as VOD, OTT and social media platforms. For Librarians With comprehensive use of glossary terms, and the faceted search capabilities of the SOLR search engine in Dalet Galaxy, entering metadata and finding content has never been easier. In the past, librarians had to enter metadata for each asset that came into the system. Using ‘The Trailer Park Boys’ (Canadian Program), as an example, in every episode actor Mike Smith plays the character Bubbles, most of the episodes are shot in Nova Scotia, and the genre is comedy. Rather than entering all this information in multiple fields for each asset, by simply typing ‘T-R-A’ in the proper field, Dalet Galaxy will suggest what glossary term you might want, which is related to a wide variety of information in other fields such as the actor’s height, the shooting location and whatever else is common to every show. If a Dalet Galaxy user wants to make a highlight reel of Canadian Male Comedians, the user can quickly choose ‘actor’ in a dropdown menu from the search template and narrow down the search results by selecting different criteria as facets such as ‘Comedy,’ ‘Male,’ and ‘Canadian,’ resulting in some videos, pictures and audio of Bubbles…I mean Mike Smith. Instead of conducting separate searches in a production system, archive system, bureaus or different stations, by using the new federated search capabilities, users can conduct single queries that will search throughout multiple systems, which could be spread out across a country or even the world. To add to the search functionality, Dalet AmberFin has the ability to extract closed captioning, which is then tagged by timecode to an asset in the MAM, allowing users to locate the exact moment a person says a specific sentence by simply typing those words into the search field. For Management If you need reports on how long it takes an archivist to log content, how many times a video has been watched on YouTube, or if content was used past its embargo date, the Dalet Reporting Centre is for you. Dalet Galaxy not only generates reports on the lifecycle of assets, it also shows managers where they can improve a system or workflow to avoid bottlenecks and improve on their return on investment with business intelligence. For the past few years, the “Cloud” has been the buzzword for many of our customers along with PasS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service). At NAB this year in Las Vegas, we produced an entire news broadcast with the help of journalism students from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where the entire system was hosted on the Cloud, with approved content uploaded to YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. National Assembly of Mauritius Deploys Dalet for Media Operations
Dalet Digital Media Systems, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations, today announced that the National Assembly of Mauritius has deployed an end-to-end Dalet Galaxy Media Asset Management (MAM) platform at the heart of its media operation, including managing the recording and live broadcast of parliamentary sessions. The implementation, facilitated as a joint venture between Dalet, local partner HMT (Harel Mallac Technologies), and South Africa broadcast specialist Zimele Broadcast, is the latest instance of Dalet solutions being used by national and international government institutions to acquire, centralize, manage, produce and distribute official content to the public. “The installation of Dalet and broadcasting from parliament live for the first time helps the National Assembly meet one of its core mission statement objectives,” explains Saseeta Ramsahye-Rakha, parliamentary ICT manager of the Mauritius National Assembly. “The main objective is to bring Parliament to people and help the public understand the role and operation of the National Assembly through information sharing. Equally important, with Dalet now at the center of the media operation, members are able to keep their constituents well-informed on vital subjects and decisions by easily and quickly publishing media online.” The Mauritius National Assembly reached a landmark in its democratic process on 15 December 2016 when it began live broadcasting of the parliamentary proceedings. The New Workflow National Assembly staff enter the parliamentary order of business into Dalet planning tools, which, via the Dalet API, populate the Event Guide and Session Agenda on the Mauritius government website (https://parliamenttv.govmu.org). All cameras in the National Assembly’s main Chamber are recorded automatically onto high-density Dalet Brio video servers and with overlaid Dalet Cube graphics to identify each speaker, a live output is produced and simultaneously broadcast via Mauritius TV and streamed live via Unified Streaming servers on the online video platform. Galaxy workflow transfers the video automatically from Dalet Brio to NetApp online storage and later to Xendata systems for archiving. Operators log content using Dalet Events Logger, which appears instantly on the website as a timestamped index against the live stream. Dalet WebSpace users can later use the logs to search tags, select shots and create EDLs using Dalet OneCut for content production. Additionally, when there are no live sessions, Dalet OnAir can automate playout via Dalet Brio, incorporating graphics generated by Dalet Cube. The system has capacity to also record and stream the two National Assembly committee rooms when required. AmsterMAM – What’s New With Dalet at IBC (Part 1)
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you may also receive our newsletters (if not, email us and we’ll sign you up) – the latest edition of which lists 10 reasons to visit Dalet at the upcoming IBC show (stand 8.B77). Over the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be using this blog to expand on some of those reasons, starting this week with a focus on Media Asset Management (MAM) and the Dalet Galaxy platform. Three years ago, putting together an educational seminar for SMPTE, Bruce Devlin (star of this blog and Chief Media Scientist at Dalet) interviewed a number of MAM vendors and end users about what a MAM should be and do. Pulling together the responses – starting with a large number of post-it notes and ending with a large Venn diagram – it was obvious that what “MAM” means to you is very dependent on how you want to use it. What we ended up with was a “core” of functionality that was common to all MAM-driven workflows and a number of outer circles with workflow-specific tasks. This is exactly how Dalet Galaxy is built – a unified enterprise MAM core, supporting News, Production, Sports, Archive, Program Prep and Radio, with task-specific tools unique to each business solution. At IBC we’ll be showcasing these workflows individually, but based on the same Dalet Galaxy core. For news, we have two demonstrations.
