In Perfect Harmony: Dalet Flex and Spectra BlackPearl
Integration between Dalet and Spectra Logic is nothing new, but Spectra Logic’s latest offering, Spectra BlackPearl® brings new opportunities to expand the #DaletEcosystem with a complete solution for archive and asset management in a cloud-based environment.By Jonathan Coutts-Zawadzki | 09/02/21
For more than 40 years, Spectra Logic has built a reputation for reliable data storage technology, including LTO (Linear Tape Open) tape libraries, for content archive. Today, many customers — particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic — are now also actively looking into cloud solutions such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform for secure and easy archiving, as well as a method to easily share assets in a global environment. These customers are data-intensive businesses such as high-performance computing companies, genomics, research sites, and media and entertainment studios.
Potential issues with traditional HSM (hierarchical storage management) are around scalability and searchability of assets. As there is now a demand for remote production, the advantages for object-based storage, something that Dalet Flex does and does extremely well, is in how it can scale and easily make assets searchable as well as shareable across the cloud as object-based storage running on a web-based system.
Dalet Flex and Spectra BlackPearl work together to bring a fully integrated solution tested and certified to meet a media-rich organization’s remote production needs. With the capabilities of both platforms across production and asset management, Dalet Flex and Spectra BlackPearl support integrated workflows, promoting greater efficiencies, where each platform’s benefits are passed on to end users. Both companies aim to better connect users to content no matter where they are located.
Our integrations are tested, certified, and designed to make the most of monetizing and securely archiving assets. This collaboration instills confidence in our clients to trust both Dalet and Spectra Logic as a joint solution provider.
Dalet FlexMAM tools enable users to manually archive and restore content from the Spectra BlackPearl archive
One success story for Dalet Flex and BlackPearl is with media production powerhouse Fox Sports Australia, using the Dalet ecosystem to manage their original content, assets, and archived footage, some of these assets over a decade old. The workflows Dalet Flex and Spectra BlackPearl deployed easily incorporate rich metadata in order to make ten years of assets both accessible and securely stored in a hybrid cloud environment. Success cases like this one are part of a larger developmental roadmap between Dalet and Spectra Logic for future workflows and integrations.
