The Power of Workflow Orchestration for IMF
Posted: Thursday, May 12, 2016
Once upon a time, long, long ago in a media facility far, far away, the world of media transformation was a simple place. Today, things are very different; we are manufacturing a specific version for a specific business need against a specific delivery profile. The old paradigm of "use this profile to transcode" has been replaced with "here is the workflow that encapsulates our business rules for this deliverable.”

Live from the NAB – sort of!
Posted: Wednesday, April 22, 2015
Normally during a big trade show, such as NAB or IBC, we would have a blog from the show floor – primarily to give our readers not attending the show a glimpse into the main topics of discussion and general vibe at the convention center. The sharp-eyed among you will, therefore, have noted that we’re a little late on this one – sorry – the show was simply that busy that we never had the opportunity. To make it up to you, we’ve compiled show highlights from some of our Academy all-stars.

Best of the Blogs
Posted: Wednesday, March 18, 2015
Your chance to vote on the best of the blogs from the past year and win an awesome prize! While the Dalet Academy only launched in January, Dalet has actually been posting educational blogs since NAB 2014 when we joined forces with AmberFin (and thus acquired some of their blog posts as well), and you, our readers, have been “voting with your clicks.” There are clearly some very popular topics on this blog, and the number of views speaks for itself...

We’re playing broadcast and media buzzword bingo at this year’s NAB Show, and we’re in it to win it. The other day, a member of our talented development team commented, quite accurately, that every time we return from an NAB Show, we nearly always refer to it as the biggest, busiest and best NAB ever. If you’ve ever watched or read one of my presentations or blogs on workflow, you may recollect that I’m a fan of the Toyota Production System and the “Kaizen” concept of continuous improvement. However, I do confess that, following my colleagues’ observation, I momentarily felt a certain amount of pressure to come back from NAB 2015 with evidence that it really was bigger, busier and better than previous years...

Posted: Thursday, January 15, 2015
Last week, the infamous Consumer Electronics Show (better known as CES) took place in Las Vegas. While it’s not an event that many vendors like ourselves in the media industry attend, it is a show that we watch carefully – acknowledging that our customers’ business is consumer-led, and that innovation in consumer electronics will often drive our customers’ future needs.

Digital Production Partnership Minutia, Standards, Tools and Headaches – Welcome to my life!

A long time ago whilst designing MXF, we had a simple problem to solve? How do you make the format efficient? It’s a video format and so there is going to be a LOT of data flying around: In the physical world, devices like discs, tapes, networks, even USB flash drives have physical limits in the...

MXF AS02 and IMF: What's the Difference and Can They Work Together?
Posted: Tuesday, October 08, 2013
If you read my previous posts about IMF, you will already know what it is and how it works. But one of the questions I often get is "how is IMF different from AS02 and will it replace it? After all, don’t they both claim to provide a solution to versioning problems?". In a nutshell, the answer i...
