IBC 2011: Dalet Showcases Advanced MAM Solutions to Achieve Business Goals

Dalet showcases advanced MAM solutions, designed to improve productivity in Sports, News, Program Prep and Archive workflows

Dalet will showcase Dalet Enterprise Edition, their advanced Media Asset Management (MAM) platform, and technology solutions at IBC 2011, held in Amsterdam at the RAI Centre (stand 8.B77) from September 9-13, 2011. Dalet Enterprise Edition offers end-to-end media management, a powerful workflow engine and multiple integration paths to unify disparate systems. Together with cost-effective Dalet Brio server technology, Dalet Enterprise Edition provides substantial business advantage and operational flexibility for managing content across multiple production, distribution and business systems. On the IBC floor, Dalet will demonstrate Dalet Enterprise Edition packaged with specialized toolsets designed to streamline news, sports, program preparation and archive workflows — Dalet News Suite, Dalet Sports Factory, Dalet Media Life and Dalet Radio Suite.

“Our MAM-driven solutions are unique and can expand business potential. They combine the exhaustive media and metadata management capabilities of the Dalet MAM platform with tailored production toolsets that boost efficiency. Users can access tools to ingest, edit, script, schedule, playout and distribute their audio, video and multimedia from their desktops. Metadata can also be managed, enriched and searched —all from the same interface,” says Stephane Schlayen, Chief Operating Officer, Dalet. “The MAM layer with cross-system metadata management, customized reports and workflow engine delivers genuine business benefits. It improves productivity, consolidates information, adds value to assets and facilitates publication to new media platforms.”

Dalet Enterprise Edition is an open platform that can be integrated with a wide range of non-linear editors, including Avid, Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier. Graphics, archive, automation and other systems can also be integrated using a variety of methods, including using SOA compliant tools such as Web Services APIs. The highly scalable architecture and design of Dalet Enterprise Edition is forward-thinking to allow for future enhancements and the incorporation of new technologies to preserve your investment.

IBC visitors will be able to see complete demonstrations of the Dalet MAM-driven workflows and productivity tools for News, Sports, Program Preparation, Archives and Radio.

Dalet News Suite

Dalet News Suite, the only integrated, end-to-end, MAM-based newsroom production system on the market, improves efficiency, productivity and collaboration with its advanced design and smart tools. With fully integrated desktop scripting, video, graphic and multimedia tools, journalists are engaged in a smooth and intuitive workflow that allows them to concentrate on producing high quality content for broadcast and new media outlets. Content and metadata are enriched at every step — from ingest through to automated playout, archives and multiplatform delivery. Dalet News Suite facilitates story-centric production and fosters collaboration between different departments — from the news desk, planning and production, to the control room and new media units. The Dalet MAM platform tracks it all and the workflow engine automates many background tasks. With full media and metadata tracking, the MAM platform provides a robust framework for managing assets and leveraging content to take advantage of new business opportunities.

“At IBC 2011, we will be showing the full range of news production capabilities and demonstrating some enhancements to our video editor including blur and zoom effects and the ability to preview Chyron graphics in the Dalet timeline editor and to directly burn-in graphics for web publishing,” says Kevin Savina, Director of Product Management, Dalet. “It’s now also possible to transparently combine mixed aspect ratios and mixed video formats on the same timeline all from our proxy editing tools. Our iPad app has also been enhanced, extending the system beyond the newsroom. View videos, execute approvals, and see rundowns and other essential elements of the newsroom system right on your iPad.” Dalet will also provide a sneak-peak of ingest capabilities with the AVC Intra codec.“

Dalet Sports Factory

Dalet Sports Factory is a comprehensive Media Asset Management platform designed for cross-system media and metadata management in the most demanding sports operations. The MAM capabilities of Dalet Sports Factory can be fully exploited through integrations with industry-standard sports production systems, logging systems, NLEs and various archive systems. Dalet Sports Factory provides global media and metadata management. All metadata and assets – wherever they reside – in production or in archives are fully searchable within the MAM. They are right at your fingertips for use during and after the game.

Sports Factory is also packaged with Dalet’s purpose-built tools for logging, highlight creation and playback, and instant replay with multiple camera angles and slow motion. These tools deliver a fast, streamlined workflow that’s fully integrated into the MAM. Media is logged once and immediately available for use in programs and packages.

Dalet Sports Logger features one-button logging and “intelligent” team rosters for fast highlight creation. One click denotes the type of play (goals, penalties, etc.) and the start of the highlight. Add player info with a single click on the roster display. Plays and metadata are accurately entered into your pre-configured MAM fields, adding value and consistency to game logs. Highlight starts can be set a few seconds before mark-ins, so that you’ll never miss a key play; all clips are immediately available in Dalet Hilites Espresso for fast assembly of multiple playlists. Dalet Media Replay makes it simple to create an instant replay from multiple camera angles with slow motion and reverse slo-mo. You can even include bumpers and spots in your replay scenes.

“Sports Factory is really unique,” explains Savina. “Tools for each task are included, but the underlying technology ties it all together so it can be seen from a single interface. All the different data, media and workflow elements —the video, metadata with multiple camera angles and logs. And our integration capabilities with other systems mean means there are no silos anymore. It’s all fully integrated; everything is there and immediately available for searching and retrieval. You can bring clips or melts right into your production chain wherever they are stored.”

Dalet Media Life

Dalet Media Life leverages IT standards and infrastructure to meet the complex production and asset management needs of multiplatform content providers such as networks, thematic channels and promo departments who deal with high volumes of video and audio programming — from movies, documentaries and TV series to cartoons, promos and jingles. It has a flexible, comprehensive data model, a workflow engine to manage human and automated tasks, and a complete set of functional tools that are all accessible from the same user interface to address unique workflow needs. Media Life is designed to integrate with third-party systems such as NLEs, automation devices, archives and business systems. It is an open platform with a variety of data exchange and integration paths, including using SOA compliant tools such as Web Services APIs. The forward-thinking design allows for the incorporation of new technology enhancements and protects the value of your investment.

“Dalet Media Life focuses on program preparation, and we will be demonstrating how many task-specific tools meet specialized needs, including editorial management, compliance editing, technical QC, versioning, language subtitling and caption management. Work order management and reporting tools make the entire production and distribution process more visible to managers,” Savina explains. “Dalet Media Life leverages the powerful MAM metadata capabilities to extend across all connected systems, enhancing and leveraging the value of the content throughout. It offers global archive management that can be tailored for news and sports workflows with customizable, structured data configurations, glossaries and device control.”

Dalet Radio Suite

Dalet Radio Suite is the only radio production and automation software that incorporates music workflows, news workflows, media asset management and multimedia distribution within the same system. Designed for the era of media convergence, Radio Suite is built on the powerful Media Asset Management (MAM) platform of Dalet Enterprise Edition and streamlines every aspect of the digital production chain for news and music channels. Stations can optimize their programming efforts for traditional over-the-air broadcasts as well as streaming, VOD, Podcasts and other platforms.

Radio Suite’s centralized MAM content catalog seamlessly manages all programs and associated data. Combined with modular, task-specific tools, Dalet Radio Suite meets the comprehensive demands of large-scale newsrooms as well as the needs of multi-channel music networks. Journalists have all the desktop tools they need to ingest audio, create scripts, record and edit audio, and build and manage rundowns. DJs can exercise their creativity with easy-to-use playlists, multitrack editing, and Carts for jingles and liners. Remote voice tracking tools facilitate contributions by off-site talent.

Tools are also geared to today’s needs. Dalet OneCut is a new, advanced audio editor that smoothly includes effects and supports multiple HD formats. And when it comes to playout, Dalet OnAir is a proven and highly reliable automated solution used in some of the world’s largest multi-channel operations. Dalet Radio Suite is designed for outstanding scalability with hundreds of simultaneous users; for example, Radio Nacional de España (RNE), Spain’s national radio service, has deployed more than 600 Dalet Radio Suite clients to facilitate news and music programming for all six of their themed radio stations.
