Dalet Inks OEM Deal with Softel

Softel now resells Swift vTX closed caption and subtitle processing engine with Dalet’s new Dalet Media Life solution

Dalet, a leading developer of enterprise Media Asset Management (MAM) solutions, announced at NAB 2011 a business partnership with Softel to resell the Swift vTX closed caption and subtitle processing engine with the company’s new Dalet Media Life solution. Dalet Media Life manages the complex media management requirements of high-volume, multi-platform program producers, such as broadcast networks and thematic channels.

“Integrating Softel into the Media Life back office is key for Dalet. The highly adaptable closed captioning and subtitling technology ensures our customers have robust support for ancillary data,” says Raoul Cospen, Director of Marketing, Dalet. “Leveraging the open Dalet platform, we can easily integrate new, best-of-breed third-party software components like Softel and offer end-to-end, efficient workflows.”

Media Life combines enterprise Media Asset Management with specialized tools covering the complete programming chain – from ingest, QC, compliance, and content enrichment to playout, distribution, and archiving. The integrated Softel engine automates back office processing of closed captions and subtitles in a variety of formats.  It also enables caption and subtitle preview from any Dalet workstation; providing contributions to different platforms and outlets such as broadcast servers, web distribution and VOD in a broad range of formats. Softel’s ability to read and write the widest array of legacy closed caption and subtitle file formats offers significant advantages for Dalet Media Life users.

Softel technology can embed multi-vendor subtitle file formats and subtitle metadata into MXF and standard video wrappers. Dalet Media Life customers will also benefit from a transparent handling of subtitles to streamline what can otherwise be a very complex and time-consuming workflow.

“It is very rewarding to see how the significant efforts we have invested in developing the feature rich Swift vTX solution is allowing us to deliver future-proof solutions that fit with the requirements of next generation workflows. This integration will allow Dalet to leap beyond their competition to enable its users to deliver complex ancillary data processing effortlessly.” remarked Sam Pemberton, Chief Executive Officer, Softel.
