Indian broadcaster scales up existing Dalet News Suite installation to launch all-news channel in Hindi language

Singapore – February 8, 2012 – Dalet Digital Media Systems (www.dalet.com), a leading developer of Media Asset Management (MAM) and News solutions, software and services for broadcasters announced today that Indian broadcaster Mahuaa Media Private Limited (MMPL) has expanded its existing Dalet newsroom system in Nodia, India, to launch an additional 24/7 news channel. Newsline UP, the brand-new Hindi-language channel complements Mahuaa Bihar, the Bhojuri-language channel, which was the country’s first facility to deploy the Dalet MAM-based, tapeless workflow in 2009. Dalet business partner Ideal Broadcasting India Pvt Ltd. integrated the facility.

“The scalability of the Dalet system offered us a very cost-effective and efficient way to implement this additional channel. It allowed us to jump-start the project and execute quickly as we could build on our existing infrastructure,” says Atul Jain, Technical Head (Engineering & Operations) for Mahuaa TV. “We added servers and storage capacity to support the higher workflow demands, and we’ve had excellent performance operating both channels simultaneously. And from a technical standpoint, having a unified system certainly simplifies maintenance and overall operations.”

Dalet’s underlying MAM framework facilitates seamless integration with third-party systems. Integrations at Mahuaa’s news center include Final Cut Pro editing systems, Omneon MediaGrid and Quantum offline storage with XenData HSM for archive and Vizrt graphics. Dalet also controls video ingest and playout via Omneon MediaDeck servers. “The single, cross-system MAM platform makes it much easier for us to manage content throughout the production chain – from ingest to archiving,” explains Mr. Jain. “Journalists can search the metadata fields to find the content we need wherever it is located. The MAM capabilities are especially important as we add additional channels and languages.”

Newsline UP has its own news team, nearly doubling the number of newsroom staffers who rely on 70 Dalet News Suite workstations for end-to-end production. Journalists have all their tools right on the Dalet desktop and have control of their content. They monitor incoming video, browse, log metadata, read newswires, prepare scripts and do rough cut video editing as well as manage assignments and rundowns. The tools are very intuitive and task-specific, making it quite easy for Newsline UP to adapt to the system. Both channels have dedicated Final Cut Pro edit suites for sophisticated editing and effects. Journalists have full editing capability of the video packages with Dalet Media Cutter. Additionally, the Dalet Xtend plug-in for FCP allows direct importing between the Dalet browser and FCP bins for seamless craft production. Each channel has a separate control room.

“Mahuaa’s channel expansion perfectly illustrates the benefits of Dalet’s MAM-based platform. By simply leveraging the scalability and flexibility of the existing Dalet system, Mahuaa TV has just doubled their production capacity and increased their number of media outlets, ” says Arnaud Elnecave, General Manager, Dalet Asia Pacific. “This is the very same trend we are witnessing across our wide community of broadcast customers – our proven, value-added solutions can deliver a fast ROI while building a robust technology foundation to transform competitive challenges into growth opportunities. I also want to emphasize our commitment to this region. This market is incredibly vital, and Dalet has recently expanded its presence in India. Dalet veteran Jonathan Coutts has been appointed Country Manager and is based in Delhi. A local project implementation and customer support team is now also present in Noida.”

About Mahuaa Media Private Limited
Mahuaa Media Private Limited is promoted by Mr. P. K. Tewari who has been associated with the media and entertainment industry for over two decades. Mr. Tewari has been the force behind the renowned feature film “New Delhi Times,” award-winning programs for various channels, and for the creation of Pixion, the largest post production facility in India. MMPL is entering the TV broadcasting space by launching several regional channels.

Paris, February 2nd, 2012 – Dalet announced consolidated revenues (unaudited) for the year ended December 31, 2011 of €31.2 million, compared to €25.5 million (+22%) in 2010. Revenues were up 6% from €29.4 million of pro-forma revenues for 2010, including twelve months revenues from Italian subsidiary GruppoTNT acquired in July 2010.

Gross margin (defined as revenues minus cost of goods and third-party services resold) for the year was €24.9 million, a 16% increase compared to €21.5 million pro-forma in 2010. The gross margin rate for 2011 was 80%, up from 73% (pro-forma) in 2010, due to the strong decline of the Italian subsidiary’s traditional hardware integration business in its domestic market. Its activity is now almost fully aligned with the Group’s core software business.

Fourth quarter consolidated revenues (unaudited) were €10.0 million, compared to €10.5 million in Q4-2010 (-4%), whereas the margin for the quarter was up by 10% at €8.8 million, due to the favorable evolution of the sales mix.

Dalet’s backlog of orders to be executed in 2012 stands currently at €21 million, compared to a backlog of €19 million at the same period last year.
