Video newsroom solution will streamline editorial and production processes
London, United-Kingdom – January 17, 2008 – Dalet Digital Media Systems today announced that The Press Association has selected Dalet NewsPro as a digital production platform to power their growing range of video and multimedia products. The Press Association will use its Dalet system to produce video content for broadcast and digital markets. The Dalet NewsPro installation will provide advanced editing and seamless media management features to optimize content aggregation, production and distribution.
“We wanted a video newsroom solution which would streamline our editorial and production processes and which we could integrate with our other systems and services”, explains Mr. Paul Berman, IT Development Director, at The Press Association. “We are impressed with Dalet asset management capabilities and the way in which we have been able to configure the system to meet our needs.”
“The growing need for on-demand content requires content producers to adapt their whole workflow to a digital, file-based world,” comments Mr. Chris Wright, General Manager of Dalet UK. “Dalet NewsPro provides Press Association video journalists with the editorial and production tools they need and Dalet automated back-office operations accelerate both the news gathering and the distribution processes.”
The Press Association uses its Dalet NewsPro platform to produce and manage video packages. They take advantage of Dalet open architecture to integrate it with a number of third-party systems and applications including Marquis Medway for media transfers between NetApp and EditShare storage systems and to a range of transcoding engines.
Journalists in the field upload compressed video files back to headquarters where the PA Video Hub, an in-house application receives the assets. Packages and metadata are automatically imported by a Dalet Media Gateway into the Dalet content catalogue. All media is stored on centralized production storage and is immediately available to all Dalet workstations for searching, browsing, logging and editing. Dalet application servers render finished items off-line and generate proxy versions for browsing by remote users.
Integration with Marquis Medway ensures that shot selections made by journalists using Dalet NewsPro are exported to an EditShare-based workgroup of Avid editors. Final packages are moved back to the main NetApp production storage, referenced by Dalet NewsPro and submitted for approval. Distribution of video packages and of associated audio bytes and stills is ensured by the PA Video Hub system.
