As 24/7 news channels proliferate over satellite and cable networks and information web sites multiply, broadcast news becomes an increasingly competitive environment whereby:
Deadlines are replaced by rolling headlines; As a result, newsroom computer systems need to embed increased intelligence so as to free up editorial staff from technical constraints; advanced device integration in the gallery has become an essential element of a successful newscast;
The number of information sources keeps increasing; agency wires compete with web sites, blogs and RSS feeds; newsrooms need to aggregate content sources and embed sophisticated cross-media searches associated with a flexible notification engine;
Video is everywhere; incoming feeds and EVNs move to file-based, store-and-foreward delivery systems and clips filmed with mobile phones become the prime source for breaking news coverage; newsrooms need to provide journalists with multimedia desktops that put audio and video sources a mouse-click away;
Journalists have even less time than before; little time for training is available; to make things worse, newsroom staff increasingly involve freelancers; newsrooms need to be easy-to-learn.
In this context, broadcasters need to reconsider their requirements for their newsroom computer system (NCS). Newsrooms need to be built around a core broadcast workflow engine that does not limit itself to handling scripts and rundowns.
Designed by the same team that brought broadcasters a.n.n.’s NewsWire 2000, Dalet digital media systems such as Dalet NewsWire and Dalet OpenMedia bring unique benefits to both private and pubic broadcasters:
Advanced scheduling;
Best-of-breed automation;
Sophisticated metadata handling and power search engines;
Modular architectures that facilitate the implementation of rich media desktops;
