Paris, France – November 21, 2005 – Dalet, a leading provider of media management tools for more than a decade, today announced the release of the new Dalet Audio Engine. The Dalet Audio Engine was designed from the ground up with the goal of providing increased audio performance for DaletPlus systems used in broadcast environments.
Based on a state-of-the-art low latency design, the Dalet Audio Engine leverages Intel®-based processing power to ensure proper play-out of playlists in broadcast environments. It can mix a virtually unlimited number of media files of different formats and sample rates, mono and stereo, managing volume curves and fades in the process. It provides immediate start and fast response to controls and supports both simple and multi-channel I/O devices. Whereas MPEG encoding, mixing and decoding previously required dedicated Digital Signal Processing (DSP) devices, modern CPUs can now reliably handle audio processing tasks for broadcast operations: a typical Intel Pentium running at 2.8 GHz for example can encode a stereo MPEG-1 Layer 2 file using about 2% of its clock cycles.

The new Dalet Audio Engine supports both Digigram boards and industry-standard audio devices with WAVE (MME) drivers. Broadcasters can now leverage a wide range of audio devices from a variety of manufacturers including Digigram, Lynx or Terratec. The flexibility in the required hardware per workstation allows radio customers to increase the number of Dalet workstations and contemplate much larger enterprise wide deployments. This also applies to courts, parliaments and other government institutions that have a large number of recording locations.
