Dalet NewsWire at ART Television

A MOS-compliant newsroom to cover sports news

When it comes to covering live sport events such as the soccer world cup, the Arab Radio and Television (ART) network relies on Dalet NewsWire to put together its daily newscasts. Right from their desktops, producers can run the whole show: they plan events coverage, build rundowns, assign and review stories. Journalists can browse incoming SNTV agency wire feeds, search and filter stories. They write scripts and directly embed computer generated graphics using a CG simulator which generates a preview of lower thirds as they will appear on screen. When it comes to show time, tracking and triggering secondary events is simplified thanks to the Dalet iii gateway which drives a Vizrt digital video engine.

The incoming SNTV agency wire feed (1) is parsed by a Dalet Agency Receiver (2) and resulting wire stories are dynamically indexed by the Dalet Content Catalogue (3) which runs on a Microsoft certified cluster so as to provide 24/7 reliability. Using their Dalet NewsWire workstations (4), journalists in the newsroom can search wires, as well as setup search filters so as to be automatically notified of new stories that meet predefined criteria.

Show producers build the rundown and assign stories to the journalists. Stories include references to Vizrt Trio lower thirds and graphics. Any change to the rundown is instantaneously echoed to all workstations including the one of the producer in the gallery (5). During the show, Dalet NewsWire continuously updates the teleprompter (6); it also dynamically preloads the CG device (7) thanks to the Dalet Serial Gateway (8).
