Dalet to host third edition of the New Technology Seminar during IBC 2005

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – September 9, 2005 – Dalet will host its New Technology Seminar summit on Monday, September 12, 2005 at the Novotel Hotel (a five minute walk from the RAI center) in Amsterdam. Co-sponsoring the event is industry mover and shaker Exanet, and Germany’s thought leader on broadcast issues, Medien Bulletin. The event will examine the rapidly changing landscape of newsroom technology and encourage debate on subjects such as tapeless workflows, asset management and the best way to maintain your competitive edge in mission critical environments. Leading experts from newsroom operations and manufacturers will join Dalet to discuss the latest in digital migration strategies and technology solutions.

“The challenges of running a top ranked newsroom operation boils down to who can adapt and exploit new technologies that balance business objectives and maximize bottom line results,” comments Nic Hans, director of product strategy, Dalet. “This summit gives us an opportunity to discuss just how we can make this happen.”

Sure to be a huge success, the industry buzz has hundreds of broadcasters pre-registered for Dalet’s annual free event. Speakers from Dalet, S4C, Exanet and more will offer presentations and discussions on the following topics:

- What productivity gains can we expect from moving to MXF?
Moving from tape based workflows with real-time bottle-necks to MXF based workflows where faster than real-time transfers are the rule can unleash productivity. It’s about time we put some figures on the real benefits of digital production.

- What should you be looking for when buying digital storage infrastructure?
Information Technology is finally delivering the bandwidth and storage capacities required for broadcast operations. The move from tape to files can bring huge benefits for broadcasters, providing they make the right decisions in terms of storage.

- Building a digital news library
The move to tapeless production environments creates new challenges for the production and re-use of news archives. Integrating IT storage with legacy broadcast servers allows for archives to move out of the basement.

- Optimizing program and promo management at S4C
The move to tapeless production environments allows for better program management and accelerated promo production. The public Welsh channel, S4C, will share the lessons learned from its recent migration to a digital, file-based workflow.

- Building a 24 hour news channel at SNN
Mission: Build a 24 hour news channel with minimal staff but maximum punch. The Sarasota News Network in Florida leveraged best-of-breed MXF technology to successfully take the challenge.
